What Will My Child’s Braces Cost?

A young family consisting of a father, mother and young boy gather around a piggy bank on the table.

At Summit Family Orthodontics, serving Littleton, CO and the general vicinity, we see the expression on parents’ faces when we tell them their child needs braces. Often, the first question they have is “How much can I expect to pay for my child’s braces?” Fortunately, this cost may be less than you think.

Average Price of Braces

Generally, the price of braces is around $3,000, although it’s impossible to put an exact price out there because there are many different types of braces and each individual patient’s needs are different. Rest easy knowing that there is no charge for your first consultation to determine the best course of treatment.

The Most Affordable Options

Traditional metal braces are usually the most affordable option. We recommend that you visit our office as soon as you suspect that your child’s teeth may need braces, even if they don’t have all of their permanent teeth. Early intervention treatments like expanders, space maintainers and partial braces can often save money in the long run.

Discreet Braces

Ceramic braces perform the same job as a pair of metal braces, but they consist of tooth-colored brackets. Therefore, they blend in well with your child’s teeth. This option is slightly more expensive than standard metal braces. Clear aligners are usually a little more than traditional metal braces but it depends on the individual case. We offer Invisalignยฎ clear aligners which are comfortable, almost invisible, and removable for eating and cleaning. Clear aligners are a popular choice for adults. The most expensive option is lingual braces which are placed on the inside of your child’s teeth. The process is quite intricate because the metal isn’t exposed on the outside of the teeth.

Insurance Coverage

Your insurance may cover a portion of the braces. It’s legally necessary for dental insurance to cover a portion of braces if a dentist deems it medically necessary for a child to have braces. For instance, if your child has an issue with chewing because of an alignment problem, insurance will cover a portion of the expenses. Our office is insurance friendly and will help you maximize your benefits.
