Do Orthodontists Receive Special Training?
July 31, 2019 10:15 pmYou probably know orthodontists as the dentists who specialize in helping patients achieve beautiful and aligned smiles. Read on to learn about orthodontists and their advanced training after dental school.
What Is an Orthodontist?
An orthodontist is a dentist who specializes in, to put it simply, straightening teeth. They are experts at identifying issues that can disrupt alignment, as well as diagnosing and treating issues like crooked teeth, gaps, misaligned jaws, and malocclusion. Be it overcrowding, teeth that have shifted, an overbite, underbite, overjet, or a crossbite, an orthodontist can design an effective treatment plan for achieving the straight smile of your dreams.
Specialized Orthodontic Training
Orthodontists must complete advanced dental education requirements in orthodontics to practice their craft. After dental school, a general dentist develops their skills during an additional two to three year residency focused on specialized orthodontic training and must pass a certification exam to officially become a practicing orthodontist.
